According to ESPN, Middlesbrough are set to sign Jack Harrison on loan and that could free up Adam Clayton to move to Nottingham Forest.

Forest were interested in Clayton earlier in the transfer window, according to the Nottingham Post, but were unable to get a deal over the line.

The Gazette reported how Tony Pulis was reluctant to let Clayton go at that time, as he felt he was short of options in midfield.

However, Harrison’s impending arrival at the Riverside is set to strengthen Boro in that area and that could make Clayton available again.

Forest have been quiet in the transfer window since Aitor Karanka took charge, but Clayton was believed to have been one of his first targets.

Clayton would add creativity and steel to Forest’s midfield ranks, and could be an exciting addition for the Reds.

Clayton has made just two substitute appearances in the league since Pulis took charge at Boro, which means that a move to Forest could appeal.
