Declan Rice’s cryptic message on social media website Twitter may have been directed towards West Ham United board rather than the supporters, if recent reports are to be believed.

Rice randomly posted a picture of a love heart and a hammer next to a picture of him in a West Ham shirt.

Many West Ham fans took it to be an indication that he had just signed a new contract, as reported by HITC.

However, The Sun have just suggested that West Ham have not actually made any progress with Rice’s contract talks.

The youngster is set to be a free agent in the summer, and no discussions have taken place recently.

And it may be that Rice’s message was designed to snap West Ham’s board into action and show where his loyalties lie.

If West Ham are to lose Rice on a free transfer it would be a devastating blow to Manuel Pellegrini’s side, as the midfielder looks to be the brightest prospect at the club currently.
