The West Ham United manager has a long and arduous challenge ahead of him at the London Stadium.
Hammers boss David Moyes sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and shared how he has already discussed improving the club’s training facilities with the owners.
West Ham moved to the London Stadium at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, in a switch that was made in the hope of bringing in extra revenue that would, in turn, see them compete financially with Europe’s most elite clubs.
The east London outfit remained at their modest Rush Green training base, however, which seemed like a strange decision, considering the fact that there are far more modern setups present at most Premier League clubs.
Moyes though, explained how the idea of moving to a newer complex has already been discussed with the club’s owners, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“When I took over at Everton, we trained at Bellefield, which had been Everton’s training ground for more than 50 years, before we moved to Finch Farm in 2007. Bellefield reminds me quite a lot of Rush Green, which is slightly bigger. Within a couple of weeks of arriving, we were talking about building a new training ground.”
Whilst Moyes is on just a six-month contract at West Ham, the mere fact that he has discussed moving training grounds with the club’s owners could indicate that he has a more long-term future at the club.
Whether Hammers fans will be happy with that concept is debatable, but if the Scot manages to guide West Ham to a successful campaign, it will be hard for the owners not to reward him with a long-term deal.
