Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino spoke at length how he wanted transfers completed early on.

Daniel Levy (R) looks on during the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur at The Hawthorns on October 15, 2016 in West Bromwich, England.

Daniel Levy has completed ignored Mauricio Pochettino’s warning about transfers at Tottenham Hotspur.

Pochettino spoke to the Guardian about the need for transfers to be made early this summer by Spurs.

The Argentine boss wanted to give any new additions at Tottenham the chance to settle in before the new campaign started.

However, after a series of failed negotiations, Spurs have still not made a signing this summer.

Tottenham are now due to travel to the USA on a pre-season tour, but Pochettino will have no fresh faces.

And if his words from earlier this summer are anything to go by, he could be frustrated by that fact.

“This summer was a very good example because we signed good players but it was so late and with no pre-season [for them], you pay,” Pochettino said back in December last year. “You then need six or seven months for the player to be fit, adapt himself in everything and that is always against us.

“The most important thing that we have been talking about is to identify our targets and, on 3 July, when we start our pre-season, they are here.

“If we don’t, it’s so difficult for them to help the team and then, during the season, you are going to pay. It’s so important today to identify your targets for the summer. If not and we wait until May and, before we sign, we sell, it’s so difficult to bring in players that can help.”

Levy has always ran a tight ship at Spurs, and the expense of the new stadium means that the Lilywhites cannot spend to lavishly.

However, all of Tottenham’s top four rivals have strengthened, and there is fear from supporters that Pochettino’s side could be heavily punished for standing still over the upcoming campaign.

Levy’s side still have time to rectify their transfer window and prove their ambition, but it may take a considerable amount of time before any of Tottenham’s new signings are given first-team opportunities, if Pochettino’s words are anything to go by.
