Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi.
According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur want ‘£9million’ Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi to play alongside Harry Kane next season.
The report states that Spurs have been priced out of a move for Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke and touted his Belgium teammate as an alternative strike target.
Batshuayi, as the Mirror report states, was mooted as a target for Tottenham last season. However, Daniel Levy killed the rumours, telling Standard Leige owner Ronald Duchatelet that he wasn’t interested.
The 68-year-old, who is also the main shareholder of Charlton Athletic, told Le Derniere Heure last summer, as reported by Sky Sports: ‘’There’s no interest from Tottenham as far as I know.
‘’I’ve talked to the strong man of Spurs [Levy] on Thursday and he has confirmed to me that they don’t want to sign Batshuayi.”
Why would Levy have changed his mind?
The 22-year-old, who eventually moved to Marseille from Standard, has had a good debut season in France and scored nine Ligue 1 goals in 900 minutes of football – just under one goal every game.
He has shown himself to be an asset both on the pitch from the start or off the bench, and has been utilised in a number of attacking positions.
The versatility of Batshuayi would certainly appeal to Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to piece together a side capable of mounting a top-four challenge in the Premier League, because he could fill a number of positions if injuries or suspensions start to mount up.
Ultimately, though, the touted £9million price tag looks too good to be true and his real valuation may be much higher.
