Cristian Gamboa joined Celtic from West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2016.
Gamboa made 21 appearances for Celtic during the 2016-17 campaign, but so far this season, the 27-year-old right-back has not played a single minute for Brendan Rodgers’s side, as reported by The Scottish Sun.
The former Rosenborg defender has been on the books of the Hoops since the summer of 2016 when he joined from Premier League club West Bromwich Albion for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £1 million.
The right-back believes that playing for Costa Rica at the Gold Cup in the summer has affected his chances at Celtic, as he did not feature in the Champions League qualifiers.
Gamboa seems to have taken a dig at Celtic and at manager Rodgers for not seeing too kindly to his desire to play for his national team.
“I decided to represent my country at the Gold Cup tournament this summer,” Gamboa told The Scottish Sun. “Unfortunately, I think this has had consequences for me at Celtic.
“Not doing pre-season with Celtic has proved to be very expensive for me. “There are decisions made by other people who pick the team and it is not in my hands.
“Apparently, playing at the Gold Cup was not taken in a good way at my club and I have had to wait to play again.”
Gamboa is a good player, but even last season the 27-year-old’s performances for Celtic were not exactly great.
With the emergence of 18-year-old Scottish right-back Anthony Ralston, it is going to be even tougher for the Costa Rica international defender to get back in the team.
