Clinton N’Jie spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Marseille from Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur signed Clinton N’Jie from Lyon in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The London Evening Standard to be worth £8.3 million.
The 23-year-old, who can operate as a forward or as a winger, struggled to make an impact at White Hart Lane in the 2015-16 season and sent back to France on loan for the 2016-17 campaign.
The Cameroon international played last season on loan at Marseille, and it seems that the youngster will remain at the Ligue 1 club on a permanent basis.
Although neither Tottenham nor Marseille have made any official announcement yet, N’Jie has given a strong indication that he will not be returning to North London for the 2017-18 campaign.
“I haven’t had any discussions with them,” the attacker told French publication L’Equipe (print edition, page 24, July 15, 2017) when asked how his time with Tottenham ended, as translated by Sport Witness. “I was just in London (to) get a few things and give the keys to my apartment over.”
N’Jie made 11 starts and made 11 substitute appearances for Marseille in Ligue 1 last season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in the process, according to WhoScored.
Tottenham have no need for the attacker, and it would make sense for the youngster to make the switch to Marseille permanent in the summer transfer window.
