Earlier this week, Celtic midfielder Scott Brown suggested to The Scotsman that his long-term future at the club is not certain.

Brown has been on the books of the Bhoys since 2007 and has a contract with the Glasgow giants until the end of the 2017-18 season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

The 31-year-old is one of the best midfielders in Scotland and is a key figure in the current Celtic team.

Earlier this week, the former Hibernian star told The Scotsman that he wants to end his career at Celtic, but the Scotland international admitted that talks over a new deal have not yet taken place.

Given Brown’s performances and importance, it is hard to see the Hoops deciding against offering the midfielder a new deal.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers appears to have hinted that the Scotsman will remain at Celtic Park for two more years at least.

The former Liverpool manager has said that he expects Brown to get even stronger in the next two years, suggesting that he is going to work with the midfielder until the end of the 2018-19 season at least.

“He is still a real influence and he will continue to have that,” The Glasgow Evening Times quotes Rodgers as saying about Brown. “There is chemistry there between him and I, which should be the case when it is manager and captain. It is a really enjoyable one and our communication is open.

“We both have ambitions for the club and we both enjoy quality in our work. For him, I can see him getting even stronger over the next couple of years.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with this season and he’s been a real catalyst for the squad. I genuinely think he can keep and sustain this level over the coming years.”
