Tony Xia dropped a hint regarding imminent Aston Villa signing’s shirt number.
John Terry is on the verge of securing a move to Aston Villa, with The Telegraph reporting a deal is imminent.
Terry is a free agent after his Chelsea contract expired and has reportedly agreed wages of £60,000 per week to sign for the Championship club.
Chelsea’s John Terry
It will be a big adjustment for Terry to get used to life at Villa after spending his entire career at Chelsea, but he may have one ‘home comfort’.
A cryptic message from club owner Tony Xia yesterday innocuously thanked Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia.
Kodjia wears the number 26 shirt which John Terry wore throughout his Chelsea career, and fans were convinced Xia’s message is out of gratitude because Kodjia has agreed to give up his shirt number to the incoming former England captain.
Kodjia would move to a more traditional centre forward’s number, and if this is the case the club will want to get it all announced quickly in order to help their fans buy the correct name and numbers on their kits this season.
If the striker has indeed agreed to give up his shirt number for John Terry then it is a nice show of respect for the veteran, and a sign the centre back will be welcomed into the dressing room by his new teammates ahead of the forthcoming campaign.
