Everton have been said to be interested in appointing Arsene Wenger at the end of the season, when he leaves Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger’s comments in the Daily Telegraph may just rule him out of the Everton job.

The Sun have suggested that Farhad Moshiri could attempt to appoint Wenger in the summer, with the Frenchman set to leave Arsenal.

However, Wenger appears to want a job at a club with European football on offer.

Wenger has suggested that taking a break from football does not appeal to him, and with Everton unable to offer him even Europa League football next term, it may be impossible to attract him to Goodison Park.

“I hope these are not my last European cup games – my target is to play in Europe again,” Wenger said, ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League game with Atletico Madrid tonight.

“I’ve had no break [from football management] for 35 years. You can look around, and that doesn’t exist. I don’t know now how addicted I am. I am like a guy who plays Russian roulette every week and suddenly has no gun. I will see how much I miss that gun.

“It’s long [taking a year out] – 365 days.”

Everton were always considered outsiders to land Wenger, but if European competition is that important to the Frenchman, then the Toffees should definitely look elsewhere.

Everton have a decision to make at the end of the season, over whether they keep Sam Allardyce or part ways.

Allardyce has guided Everton to a top half finish, but has failed to inspire sections of the Goodison Park crowd.

If the Toffees do look elsewhere, Paolo Fonseca and Marco Silva are the current front runners to land the post.
