Willian looks like he has sent a very significant tweet – and although it isn’t confirmation that he’s joining Arsenal, it’s possibly close to it.
The Brazilian winger was left out of the Chelsea squad last night as Frank Lampard’s side were dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, who ran out 4-1 winners on the night.
He was conspicuous by his absence and many wondered if the omission was linked to his prospective move across London to rivals Arsenal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Italian journalist, the move is ‘so close’ to materialising and Willian looks to have said goodbye to the West London club on Saturday night.
Here’s what the 31-year-old tweeted out before last night’s defeat:
It isn’t quite confirmation that he’s bound for the Emirates Stadium, but it looks a clear hint that he’s saying goodbye to the Blues.
ESPN reported earlier this week that the player would be signing a three-year deal with Mikel Arteta’s side, worth £100,000 per week.
And if true, it’s a decent bit of business. Okay £100,000 is hardly peanuts but, with his age and experience, he could have potentially got more money elsewhere.
But Arteta’s project at Arsenal clearly interests him and it’ll be fascinating to see how he performs, if and when it’s confirmed.
