Speaking on the House of Champions Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Enzo Fernandez’s future after a remarkable World Cup campaign.
The Argentine midfielder was spectacular in Qatar. He won the Young Player of the Tournament award and he barely put a single foot wrong.
As you can imagine, Fernandez is now a wanted man, and according to Romano, Liverpool and Real Madrid are tracking this player.
However, unfortunately for Liverpool, Romano says that Fernandez’s value is ever-increasing, stating that he could cost north of €100m now, but a release clause of €120m is in place, so his value won’t be any higher than that mark.

Fernandez to cost a bomb
Romano shared what he knows about the World Cup star.
“I think that it is very high. At the World Cup he arrived with a value of €65m, €70m something like that, but game-by-game his value was going up and and up and up,” Romano said.
“He has a release clause at €120M. If you said to me a month ago if you had to pay that for Enzo Fernandez I would’ve said that 65 or 70m could’ve been fine, but today I’m not sure if they’d even accept €80m or €90m. He was the best youngster at the World Cup, but he was great in the Champions League as well, Benfica won a group with PSG and Juventus. Fernandez was probably the best midfielder of the group stage with Benfica alongside Jude Bellingham.
“He’s a very special player and my feeling is that the value will be more than €100m. Many top clubs are jumping on him, Liverpool and Real Madrid already and many more top clubs will arrive.”
Wait and see
Fernandez looks like a superstar in the making, but any interested club needs to wait and see what he does between now and the end of the season before moving.
€100m is a lot of money, and it’s a huge gamble to spend that sum on a player who has only been in Europe for six months.
If he can keep this form up until the end of the season, signing him becomes a no-brainer, but if his showings do dip, it may be best to avoid a player who may just be having the greatest purple patch of his career right now.
