Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Newcastle United and their reported interest in James Maddison.
The Magpies have been keen on Maddison for quite some time. They had a bid rejected for the England international in the summer, and it’s been reported ahead of January that he’s one of the club’s top targets.
Newcastle currently sit in the top four, and with the right additions next month, they will be playing Champions League football next season.
According to Jones, Maddison is a player that the Tyneside club have a chance of getting, but the journalist also states that a £60m bid would be needed to even make Leicester flinch.

Maddison to Newcastle is possible
Jones shared what he knows about this one.
“This is one that I would love to see and the fact it has a chance is great. Newcastle are going after James Maddison, There’s so much I like about this,” Jones said.
“I think that both sides have a decision to make here. Newcastle need to put £60m on the table here for Leicester, that’s what it will take to make them flinch and for them to consider this. Secondly, does Maddison walk out on Brendan Rodgers and Leicester halfway through a season?”
Easy to convince
Jones says that it’ll be a dilemma for Maddison as to whether or not he should leave Leicester, but, in our view, it should be easy to convince him.
Indeed, not only are Newcastle the richest club in the world – and money does talk, but the Magpies are also genuine contenders for the top honours this season.
They’re in the mix for the League Cup, and while their main focus right now is top four, you really can’t discount them from the title race just yet.
Loyalty is something that really doesn’t exist in this sport these days, and if Newcastle can cough up the cash, they should be able to get Maddison.
