There’s been a few confirmed departures at Celtic over the past week.
Jonny Hayes and Jozo Simunovic have left the club upon the expiration of their contracts, while young left-back Calvin Miller has also been let go.
All three were announced by Celtic, but there’s one out-of-contract player whose departure hasn’t yet been confirmed.
Long-serving goalkeeper Craig Gordon’s contract expired on June 1 [The Daily Record] and yet there’s been no acknowledgement from the Hoops that the big man has left the club.
The 37-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for Celtic in a Premiership game for 18 months, with Southampton loanee Fraser Forster ousting him and Scott Bain when he arrived last summer.
But it’s interesting that the club is yet to confirm his departure – if he has indeed left, that is.
As things stand, Neil Lennon would only have Bain as a goalkeeping option, with Forster having returned to his parent club for now.
Gordon, an unused sub in 25 league games last season, was ahead of Bain in Lennon’s pecking order.
Back in January, the Celtic boss said: “He’s such an important part of the squad here that we don’t want to let him go.”
It remains to be seen whether he actually has been yet.
