Harvey Elliott simply used the word ‘goated’ on Instagram to describe Caoimhin Kelleher penalty heroics for Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old saved two spot-kicks as the Reds booked their place in the semi-finals of the League Cup after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield.

Even though Jurgen Klopp played a fairly young and inexperienced side, his players still managed to pull a win out of the bag, especially given that they were 2-0 down inside 15 minutes.

But with the Anfield crowd behind them, Liverpool continued plugging away, before Takumi Minamino struck a stoppage-time equaliser to send the tie to a shootout.

That’s when Kelleher came into his own and he sent the following message on his Instagram after that game,

Several players praised the Republic of Ireland international in the comments section, including Tyler Morton sharing that he ‘loved it’, whilst Derby County’s Jason Knight simply labelled him ‘incredible’.

Kelleher has come a long, long way during these past 12 months from being the third or fourth choice to now being a solid back-up for Alisson Becker.

Previously, the Liverpool fans would have been worried if Alisson had to miss games for one reason or another.

But now they have a rising star improving by the minute and showcasing to the world why he will become a top, top footballer one day.

The Cork-born player is aided by the fact that he is now also an international, which will only help his game and allow him to progress further.

After knocking out the Foxes, it’s a two-legged affair against Arsenal for Liverpool in the semi-finals next.

Although, there have been calls for it to be reduced to just the one-off knockout game.
