What a night for Kaide Gordon at Liverpool on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old only officially joined the Reds back in February of this year, signing from Derby County.
But fast forward a little over seven months and Gordon is now a fully-fledged Liverpool player.
Jurgen Klopp handed him a senior debut in the EFL Cup win away to Norwich City on Tuesday night, with the teenage sensation managing 90 minutes.
That right there is an indication that Klopp was very impressed with the youngster’s performance, evident by the fact he lasted the whole game.
Afterwards, Gordon reacted to the occasion on Instagram, writing: “Delighted to make my competitive debut also to get through to the next round.”
And in response, Harvey Elliott, another teen gem on Liverpool’s books, wrote: “Congrats young man.”
Frightening
It really is quite frightening to consider the amount of exciting gems that Liverpool having coming through at youth level.
And Elliott is an example to all of them.
Like Gordon, the former Fulham starlet joined the Anfield club as a 16-year-old, having already had Premier League experience in West London.
And this season looked like being a real breakthrough year for him on Merseyside following a brilliant loan at Blackburn last term.
But Elliott picked up a serious ankle injury in the victory over Leeds United last week and it remains to be seen when he’ll be back.
Even without that injury, Elliott’s form in the first team won’t have escaped the attention of other young stars – like Gordon, for instance and it’ll be fascinating to see if he can follow in those footsteps over the coming years.
This, it has to be said, was a very promising first step on that path.
