Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott has labelled Fernando Torres as a ‘legend’ on his Instagram story

The 18-year-old was pictured alongside the ex-striker following Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Given that Elliott is a boyhood Red, it would have been pretty special for him to beat an individual of Torres’ stature.

During his peak years at Anfield, Torres was one of the most deadly strikers, not just in the Premier League, but in Europe.

That big-money move to Chelsea has probably dampened how he is perceived on Merseyside, but that doesn’t hide the fond memories he provided the club.

Whilst Elliott was watching his boyhood club secure all three points last night and their passage into the last-16 of the Champions League.

Torres was watching his own boyhood club suffer another defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s men and once again find themselves go down to ten men during the game.

It was certainly a feisty start to proceedings, with the talk, during the build-up of this game, adding that extra spice.

Given that Diego Simeone didn’t shake Klopp’s hand after their showdown in Madrid, he made it clear that he was going to follow suit during the reverse fixture, and he kept his word.

But it was the man in the Liverpool dugout who had the last laugh because he is the one now preparing for the knockout stages.
