Speaking on The Beautiful Game Podcast, Harvey Barnes has been speaking about how Brendan Rodgers reacted to being linked with the Manchester United job.

The Northern Irishman was strongly rumoured as a potential replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the Norwegian was sacked.

United are yet to appoint a permanent replacement for Solskjaer, but Rodgers has spoken with his squad about his links to the Red Devils.

Indeed, Barnes says that Rodgers reaffirmed his commitment to the Foxes and the project at the East Midlands club after he was linked with a move to Old Trafford.

What’s Barnes said about Rodgers?

The winger was asked about Rodgers’ reaction to these rumours.

“Earlier on in the season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked, there was a lot of noise around him saying he’s looking for a house in Manchester and would be leaving Leicester. Did he reassure the boys about his long-term future?” The host asked.

“Yeah he did, it was difficult for him in that situation where it was all in the press and he knew the lads will have all read that. There’s all of this speculation, but he made it clear to the lads that as long as he’s at the club his full focus is with us and he wants to move forward with the project that we have going on. As a team it’s nice to hear that and know that he’s with us for the ride,” Barnes replied.

Stay focused

Rodgers is staying focused on the job at hand at Leicester, and that’s the right approach.

Yes, Manchester United are a club that could tempt the former Liverpool boss. After all, they’re one of the richest teams on the planet, but there’s still a job to be done at Leicester.

Let’s not forget, the Foxes have been more successful that United in recent years, they’ve won a Premier League more recently than the Red Devils and they’re the reigning FA Cup champions.

Whatever happens with Rodgers, his main focus right now has to be Leicester.
