Hakim Ziyech failed to shine for Morocco on Wednesday morning against Croatia at the World Cup and John Hartson tore into the Chelsea player on ITV Sport’s coverage of the game – amid reports Tottenham want the Chelsea star.
Ziyech, 29, came into the World Cup deemed as one of Morocco’s main men. The African nation are seen as a dark horse and with a chance of breaking into the last 16 – though they share a group with Belgium, Croatia and Canada.
If they are going to do so, they really needed £35million Chelsea man Ziyech to really have a good tournament. While it was a decent-enough performance and result for Morocco against a strong side in Croatia, Ziyech was very quiet.
Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad report that Ziyech is keen to leave Chelsea and Antonio Conte wants him at Tottenham. AC Milan are keen. But Hartson, on comms, tore into the Chelsea man, saying he thought he had gone off.
“It’s been that long since I’ve seen Ziyech in the game, that I thought he had gone off. I’ve not seen him in the second half, he’s hardly touched the ball. Just not seen him, I think he’s touched the ball twice [in the second 45], Hartson said.

On this showing, Ziyech is not good enough for Chelsea and Tottenham should look elsewhere. He is a shadow of the player that starred for Ajax, initially earning a move to Stamford Bridge during Frank Lampard’s reign as manager.
He looks like a player completely lacking in confidence. No invention, no execution. He is still a top player and he is clearly capable of magic, but he has only shown that in glimpses at Chelsea. Morocco need more at the World Cup.
