John Hartson has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that reported Manchester United and Everton target and Celtic defender Kieran Tierney would have been valued at more than £25 million had he been playing for West Ham United in the Premier League.

Tierney is one of the best left-backs in Scotland and is one of the best young players in his position in entire Europe.

The 21-year-old has been linked with moves away from Celtic, with Everton and Manchester United both claimed to be interested in the youngster.

According to The Manchester Evening News, United are prepared to wait until next summer to sign Tierney from Celtic.

The Sun has claimed that Everton have decided not to pursue their initial interest in the Scotsman due to Celtic’s demand of £25 million as transfer fee.

Former Celtic and West Ham striker Hartson has suggested that Tierney would have been valued more had he been playing for the Hammers.

Kieran Tierney of Celtic is seen during the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on April 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Hartson wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “It’s an inflated market there and it frustrates me that teams will try to get Celtic players on the cheap.

“If Kieran Tierney was playing for West Ham, for example, how much would the fees that are being talked about rise to?”

More than £25m?

Tierney is one of the best left-backs in Europe, and the Scotland international is certainly worth £25m, especially as he is just 21 years of age and can still develop.

However, one can understand why clubs in the Premier League are reluctant to pay too much money for a youngster in Scotland, as the standard of football in the Scottish Premiership is not exactly great.
