It was one of the most controversial decisions in the Premier League era – but also the correct one.
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy after the match
Leicester City won their third successive Premier League match on Saturday, a record matched only by runaway leaders Chelsea and fellow revived relegation battlers Crystal Palace.
The Foxes’ 3-2 victory at West Ham United has moved them six points clear of the drop zone and continues an impressive run of form since the sacking of Claudio Ranieri and the appointment of Craig Shakespeare as interim.
The dismissal of the Italian has proven to be one of the most unpopular in English football for some time; unsurprising really when he guided Leicester to a shock title win in 2015/16.
Yet their struggles this season eventually forced Leicester’s owners to make the heartless decision and their results since have proven it to be the correct one.

The reigning champions were on a steady slide towards the Championship, losing five of their first league six matches in 2017 without scoring a goal. Since the dismissal of Ranieri they have won four on the bounce, which has included booking their place in the Champions League quarter-finals.
It may not be popular, but the Foxes hierarchy made the right choice.
