Matt Targett has stated on Instagram that he found it ‘a bit harsh’ at being booed during Aston Villa’s 6-0 win at Barrow on Tuesday night.
For some strange reason, during the early stages of Villa’s EFL Cup win, Targett was being booed by the home supporters every time he touched the ball.
It did leave some Villa fans baffled on social media as they tried to work out what was behind those actions.
Targett played for Southampton during his career, so it’s not like he once played for a rival club of Barrow.
Plus, there wasn’t something he did early on in the game that might have riled the home supporters.
When Targett posted on Instagram about yesterday’s game, a Villa supporter asked him about being booed:
“Have you worked out yet Matty why you got booed by the home support at one stage?” asked Stewjames80 on Targett’s Instagram.
The left-back responded by saying: “Not sure. Thought it was a bit harsh,” added with laughing emojis.
It seems as though the Villa players were well aware of what they were hearing from the stands because that was proven by Anwar El Ghazi’s celebration.
Not only did the winger showcase his ruthless side by doing a Panenka against a fourth-tier side in the League Cup, but he was hushing the crowd during his celebrations.
It was a ruthless display from the Villa players, with teenager Cameron Archer being the star of the show as he struck a hat-trick on debut.
Targett himself, who has lost his starting XI place to Ashely Young, looked sharp once again and he will be hoping he can win back his place in the Premier League side.
