Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Winks has shown a great amount of promise recently.
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has told ESPN that Victor Wanyama’s arrival at White Hart Lane has helped his development.
Wanyama was brought to Spurs from Southampton during the summer transfer window, as Mauricio Pochettino looked to bolster his midfield ranks.
Wanyama is one of Winks’ rivals for a place in the centre of Spurs’ midfield, but the youngster is still delighted that the Kenyan has joined up.
Winks claims that he is happy to be learning off Tottenham’s talented senior players, and he does not mind having to fight for his place.
“I look up to a lot of the boys who have been there and done that,” the 20-year-old said. “As a midfielder I look up to all of them, [Mousa] Dembele, [Eric] Dier … [Victor] Wanyama has helped me out a lot, especially in preseason. But I just want to grow my own game and any bit of advice I can get from anyone, I’ll take.”
Winks has been singled out as one of Spurs’ top up and coming talents by Pochettino, and he has now been training with the senior squad for a considerable amount of time.
Winks was regularly with the first-team last season, and he seems to have earned Pochettino’s trust.
The technically adept midfielder came on as a late substitute during Spurs’ most recent match against CSKA Moscow, as the Lilywhites looked to hold on to their 1-0 lead.
Winks’ display in Russia caught the eye, as he showed great composure in a pressurised situation.
The youngster is now likely to remain in Tottenham’s match day squad, as they prepare to host Manchester City in Premier League action on Sunday.
