Tottenham finally came from behind to beat League One side Morecambe on Sunday afternoon – and Harry Winks has shared that happened at half-time. Spurs went into the break losing 1-0, eventually winning 3-1.
Antonio Conte fielded a much-changed side to the one that lost 2-0 to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg. Indeed, the likes of Pierluigi Gollini, Joe Rodon, Ryan Sessegnon and Bryan Gill all started the match.
England midfielder Winks was in the middle of the park, but it was not until Conte brought on Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Oliver Skipp that the game changed. It was Winks that curled in a gorgeous free-kick to equalise.
While many argue it was a cross, Winks says he meant it. Kane and Lucas put the game beyond doubt, winning 3-1. Winks shares what happened at half-time, with scoreline reading 1-0 to their lowly opponents.
“It wasn’t a good enough performance and we were sloppy at times. Everybody could have upped their game a lot. At half-time there were harsh words said,” Winks said, immediately after the 3-1 win, as per BBC Live.
Winks on half-time: Conte needs to get Tottenham firing again
The last couple of weeks have seen the old Tottenham begin to re-emerge. After a brilliant start, especially in the Premier League, Conte’s side have stuttered. A 2-0 loss to Chelsea came after a narrow win over Watford.
But it took until the 96th minute for Davinson Sanchez to nod in a free-kick against the Hornets – a frustrating performance overall for Spurs. Before that, Tottenham failed to beat 10-man Southampton, drawing 1-1.
Spurs now face a tough run of games – Chelsea twice in the league and cup, Arsenal and Leicester. If they are to get any results from the next four outings, then they have got to improve – and quickly.
