Tottenham Hotspur will take a commanding lead into the second leg of their Champions League tie with Borussia Dortmund.
Tottenham ace Harry Winks spoke to reporters after his side’s superb win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, and shared what Mauricio Pochettino told the players during the half-time interval, as quoted by Football.London.
Spurs were magnificent during the second-half against the Bundesliga side, and eventually ran out as comfortable 3-0 winners – a result that gives them a great chance of progressing through to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Tottenham have a real chance of ending their 11-year wait for a major trophy this season, and Wednesday’s scintillating second-half display against Dortmund will give them great confidence and belief.
It could have been all so different for Spurs, however, had they not raised their energy levels from the first-half of the match.
And Winks told reporters what Pochettino said to help inspire the players during the half-time break, as quoted by Football.London:
“It was a fantastic performance. The manager said to us to be more aggressive and go out there and to get in them and not let them settle. That’s exactly what we did and it worked for us. To get the goal so early on was key for us. It really set the standard in the second half for what we wanted to do.”
Tottenham face three crucial Premier League games against Burnley, Chelsea and Arsenal respectively before they travel to Dortmund for the second-leg of their Champions League tie, so Pochettino’s men will have to be on their very best form over the course of the upcoming weeks, if they are to remain in with a shout of winning both competitions.
