Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has told The Telegraph that manager Mauricio Pochettino does not want him to leave on loan.
Winks has been at Tottenham his entire professional career so far and is getting first-team chances under Pochettino at the moment.
The 20-year-old midfielder has scored one goal and created two chances in 13 Premier League appearances for Spurs so far this season.
The youngster is not guaranteed a place in the Tottenham starting lineup due to competition for places, but he is getting valuable playing time.
One would not have been surprised if Winks had been sent out on loan in the summer of 2016, but the midfielder has revealed that Pochettino has always wanted him to remain at White Hart Lane.
“Since I have been in the first-team squad after the manager came here, he has made a point of not sending me out on loan,” Winks told The Telegraph.
“He wants me here to train, he said he wants me to train and stay and play here. The fact that he wants me to do that is obviously a good sign for me and that the likes me.”
“I have been here since I was five so there was never any chance of me going to another club,” added the youngster. “The manager gives young players the chance when he thinks it is right. I think he sees every player in the squad as a potential starter. Or we wouldn’t be here.”
Winks is a talented and promising young midfielder, and he has a bright future ahead of him.
The youngster could feature for Tottenham in the FA Cup third-round tie against Championship club Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.
Tottenham are third in the Premier League table at the moment with 42 points from 20 matches, seven points behind leaders and London rivals Chelsea.
