Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks could be putting Mousa Dembele under pressure in the coming weeks.

Harry Winks closing in on a return to Tottenham Hotspur puts Mousa Dembele under big pressure.

Dembele, when on his game, is arguably Tottenham’s finest central midfielder.

However, the Belgian has periods of the season, where he often struggles for form.

Dembele, who is on an £80,000-a-week contract (Daily Star), was not at his best in Tottenham’s last game against Watford, and the 31-year-old is now under pressure to turn things around.

Pochettino has confirmed that Winks is very close to full fitness, which will put him back into starting contention.

“He is close because I am happy with him,” Pochettino said to Football London. “The last two weeks was fantastic for him, he was training so hard and I am so happy with his evolution. He is so close.”

Winks has been having issues with his ankle for months now, but before his injury, he appeared to have become a key member of Tottenham’s team.

And, given that Dembele’s future is unclear, the experienced midfielder is going to need to raise his game if he is to retain his place in Pochettino’s starting line-up, once Winks does make it back to full fitness.
