Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks posts message on Twitter after getting England call up.
Getting a national team call-up is a proud moment for any young player, and it is a special moment for Harry Winks as well who has been called up by Gareth Southgate for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania.
The 21-year-old is one of the brightest young talents to have come out from Spurs’ academy, and has been progressing steadily under Mauricio Pochettino.
He will take part in his first training session with the senior squad on Tuesday at St Goerge’s Park.
Winks suffered an ankle ligament injury in April, but he has recovered fully and has made seven club appearances this season. He featured in two of Spurs’s last three games in all competitions – in victories over Apoel Nicosia and Huddersfield Town.
Pochettino rates the youngster highly and described him as the “perfect midfielder” last week. Winks will replace Manchester City’s Fabian Delph, who has withdrawn from Southgate’s squad with a muscle strain.
