Tottenham Hotspur’s star Harry Winks has not forgotten what a big impact manager Mauricio Pochettino has had on his career to date.

Winks netted his first international goal this weekend in a 4-0 win over Kosovo and is establishing himself as a regular for England.

Rather than simply bask in the glory of a milestone career moment, Winks made a point of paying tribute to his club boss.

Winks told Talksport: “I’ve said many times and I will always say it, I’ve got everything to thank the gaffer for.

“He gave me the opportunity and I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for him.

“Of course I’ve had to work hard to get here, but getting that opportunity in the first place is always difficult and I’m forever thankful to the manager for giving me that opportunity.”

Tottenham are at risk of sleepwalking into a terrible decision to sack Pochettino amid a poor run of form, with The Telegraph reporting his future is in doubt.

Spurs are 14th in the table heading into this weekend’s game with West Ham.

Winks’ comments show how highly Pochettino is regarded by his players, and Tottenham would do well to remember this before overreacting in the moment.
