West Ham’s Declan Rice is adding to competition in England’s midfield.

West Ham’s Declan Rice has declared his international eligibility for England, choosing the Three Lions over the Republic of Ireland.
Rice announced his decision via Twitter.
Rice’s switch increases the competition for places in England’s midfield.
During the World Cup, the spots were taken by Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson.
Former footballer and pundit Tony Cascarino believes Tottenham’s Harry Winks could end up losing out.

He told The Times: “Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier are first and second choice in the holding midfield role but it won’t be long before Declan is challenging them for a starting spot, particularly as both of those players have struggled with injuries this season.
“Hrry Winks, Dier’s fellow midfielder from Tottenham Hotspur, will be worried about what this means for him too.”
Cascarino went on to suggest Rice could become and England captain.
Winks missed the World Cup due to injury last summer.
Last night Winks featured for Tottenham in the Champions League against Dortmund and was terrific.
Regardless of Rice’s decision, on last night’s form and recent weeks, Winks will be hard for Gareth Southgate to ignore.
