Ben Woodburn was on the bench again for Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth but another Under-23’s player continues to be overlooked by Jurgen Klopp.

Right Winger Harry Wilson is the top scorer for the Under-23’s this season with nine goals to his name, as well as six assists.

The 20-year-old was called up to the Wales squad for their recent qualifier against Republic of Ireland but has been restricted to only one first team appearance for The Reds; their FA Cup replay against Plymouth.

17-year-old Woodburn, by comparison, has scored six and assisted six, playing only two less games this season for the U23’s and is a regular feature on the bench for Klopp’s men, making seven appearances for the first team so far.

Considering his form for the Under-23’s and with Sadio Mane being out injured there should be no reason why Wilson can not receive the opportunity to prove his worth to the Liverpool manager.

In an interview with Liverpool Echo, Wilson said: “It’s a big step from the under-23s but everyone at the Academy is aiming to get there eventually so whether your time is now or it’s in the future, you have to adapt.

“Training at Melwood day in, day out is definitely helping me. I think the under-23s try to play the same way as the first team so that makes the step a little easier.”

Liverpool sit six points clear of fifth placed Arsenal in the race for a top four finish, albeit having played two games more.

A champion’s league place is far from secure for The Reds and there is still an opportunity for fringe players to make their mark before the season ends.

With Harry Wilson now training under the watchful eye of Jurgen Klopp, that opportunity could be there for his taking.
