Harry Redknapp will take charge of his first Birmingham City match at the weekend… against Aston Villa.
New Birmingham City boss Harry Redknapp believed he spotted a problem with Aston Villa’s squad earlier this season.
Redknapp said to TalkSPORT, back in October, that he felt part of the reason why Villa were struggling is because they had too many forwards in their squad.
Redknapp felt that Roberto Di Matteo had put together an unbalanced team in the summer, with the claret and blues having too many attacking players in their line-up.
“They have got too many forwards, I think, looking at it, it seems to me they can’t find a balance to their team,” said Redknapp on the Drive show on talkSPORT.
“They have got too many strikers, they are trying to get four of them in the team somehow (for the) two positions that are available.”
Redknapp’s comments proved to be correct, as Di Matteo was sacked after just 124 days in charge at Villa Park.
Since, Villa have gone on to appoint Steve Bruce – but they have still had a disappointing campaign.
Villa’s troubles have continued, with the Midlands side stuck in mid-table.
And it will be interesting to see whether Redknapp still believes that there are weaknesses to exploit in Villa’s squad.
Redknapp is set to take on the claret and blues in his first match in charge of Birmingham this weekend.
And the pressure will be on Redknapp to exploit any flaws he can find in Villa’s squad, as he attempts to ensure that Birmingham stay up this season.
