West Ham United could be set to give Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe a chance to rejoin the club in the summer.

Harry Redknapp has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 30th March, that he would love to see Jermain Defoe back at West Ham United.
Redknapp managed Defoe when he was a West Ham player earlier in their respective careers.
Defoe ended up leaving the Hammers to join Tottenham Hotspur in 2004, and some supporters still haven’t forgiven the striker for the way he departed.
However, Redknapp believes that Defoe would be a great addition for West Ham – and all would be forgiven if he started scoring regularly.
“He got pelters when he left there, but he was only kid and I think they got relegated and he wanted to play Premier League football,” Redknapp said.
“He started out there. I’d love to see him go back there and get a couple of goals. He could be a hero back there again, I’m sure.”
Defoe is reportedly set to leave Sunderland in the summer, should the Black Cats go down.
Defoe will be available on a free transfer if Sunderland drop in to the Championship, and there is sure to be a scramble for his signature.
West Ham tried to sign the England international striker in January, and could well return for 34-year-old in the coming months.
Defoe has netted 14 goals for Sunderland this season, despite being starved of quality service.
