Everton have been linked with Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, with his career at Old Trafford seemingly heading towards an end.

Harry Redknapp has told the London Evening Standard that he believes Everton could have a problem paying Wayne Rooney’s wages.
Everton have been linked with Rooney for some time, with his Manchester United career seemingly coming towards an end.
The Toffees could be willing to offer Rooney the chance to move back to Goodison Park, after Ronald Koeman admitted that he would be interested in a potential deal earlier in the season.
However, Redknapp believes that affording Rooney’s wages could be a complication for Everton.
“A new challenge would give Rooney a lift, too,” Redknapp said.
“Things have gone stale for him but I still think he could be effective as a striker or number ten in a Premier League team. Everton might fancy him but wages would be a problem.”
Rooney has struggled to break into United’s first-team this season, and Jose Mourinho has hinted that the England international could exit in the near future.
Rooney has also been linked with a move to China, but there are question marks over whether he would be willing to move abroad.
If Rooney does leave United in the summer he will depart as the Red Devils’ all time record goalscorer.
When Rooney played for Everton earlier in his career, he netted 17 goals in 77 matches.
