Andre Villas-Boas replaced Harry Redknapp at Tottenham Hotspur.
Harry Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that Tottenham Hotspur’s coaches have informed him that when Andre Villas-Boas was in charge at White Hart Lane he over complicated things far too much.
Villas-Boas replaced Redknapp at Spurs back in 2012, but the Portuguese boss did not last particularly long.
Villas-Boas was only in charge of Tottenham for 18 months, and Redknapp says that he has been told that the current Shanghai manager was obsessed with stats.
“That’s the way it’s gone. Too much organisation,” Redknapp said. “When Andre Villas-Boas was at Tottenham they said you needed A-Levels to work out what he was supposed to be doing. The players didn’t even know. It was all done on a computer and it was baffling.
“It’s great, we sit at clubs watching ProZone and studying the opposition non-stop. We know everything they do. We’re so obsessed with what they’re doing we forget to play.”
Villas-Boas actually set a club record high points total in the Premier League, after guiding Spurs to 72 points over the course of his first campaign in charge.
However, things started to turn sour in his second year at White Hart Lane, and he was quickly dismissed by Daniel Levy.
Tottenham replaced Villas-Boas with Tim Sherwood, before current manager Mauricio Pochettino was appointed.
Since leaving Tottenham, Villas-Boas has gone on to manage Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg, and he is now in charge of Chinese club Shanghai.
