The Real Madrid ace has been linked with a move back to Tottenham Hotspur.
Harry Redknapp spoke exclusively to the Mirror about Gareth Bale’s current situation at Real Madrid, and suggested that he would love to see the Welshman back in the Premier League, although he did highlight how a move to Tottenham might be unfeasible.
The 29-year-old has received heavy criticism from the Madrid faithful this season, with the Bernabeu crowd booing the 74-capped Wales international relentlessly during their last two games against Barcelona in La Liga and Ajax in the Champions League.
Bale has been linked with a move to Tottenham recently, with the Express exclusively reporting that Los Blancos are willing to offer the four-time Champions League winner to Spurs as part of a deal that would see Christian Eriksen head in the opposite direction.
And Redknapp suggested that it would be no surprise to see Bale return to north London, when speaking exclusively to the Mirror, although he did point out an obvious problem with that scenario:
“He is a fantastic player, who can play anywhere, and it would be no surprise if the top clubs like Man United and Spurs were interested in signing him. But on the wages he is said to be on, he would probably have to take a pay cut. Take, for example, if he was to go back to Spurs. It could create a problem because someone like a Harry Kane is there and is the top man. He’d perhaps want the same type of wages if it was being offered.”
Bale left Tottenham to join Real Madrid in the summer of 2013, for a then world record fee of £85.3 million, but his time at the Bernabeu seems to be drawing to a close.
As Redknapp said, however, his extortionate wage demands would be a huge problem for Spurs, if they did in fact want to bring him back to north London, so some kind of common ground would have to be reached, if it were to ever happen.
