Harry Redknapp has been asked if he’ll push Birmingham City’s owners to bring John Terry to the club this summer.

Blues boss Redknapp is a self-confessed admirer of Terry, whose Chelsea career is coming to an end.

Recent reports suggest Terry could decide to hang up his boots, although Redknapp claims the former England captain wants to continue for another year or two – despite being 37 in December.

The 70-year-old believes there will be no shortage of suitors, but when asked if he’ll be one of them, he told Talksport: “That’s the dream but I doubt very much whether it would happen.”

On whether he will push Birmingham’s board to do a deal for Terry, Redknapp added: “Yeah I’d love to speak with John and if he thought maybe he’d like the idea of it for a couple of years, if it was something he’s interested in, yeah that would be fantastic. [But] I’m sure there’ll be Premier League teams queuing up for John.

“He wants to play another year or two and I think eventually he’ll go into management – there’s a possibility he could be manager at Birmingham in a couple of years if he wants to come and play for me!”

Birmingham, who won two of their three games under Redknapp to preserve their Championship status, confirmed the departure of assistant boss Steve Cotterill on Tuesday.

When asked if he could bring trusted number 2 Kevin Bond with him to St Andrew’s, Redknapp had earlier replied: “I’m not sure yet, what we’re doing. Steve Cotterill came in and did a great job for me with Paul Groves – he was fantastic. Still just seeing what’ll happen with that one.”

Redknapp has also been strongly linked with moves for former colleagues Peter Crouch of Stoke City and Niko Kranjcar of Glasgow Rangers.
