Manchester United have been linked with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Harry Redknapp looks on before the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on January 31, 2018 in London, England.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has told talkSPORT that he thinks Mauricio Pochettino may have been keeping his options open when discussing the Manchester United job.

United sacked manager Jose Mourinho last week after a dismal season so far, before luring Molde’s Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in until the end of the season.

Solskjaer is essentially on loan, giving United time to land a permanent replacement for Mourinho next summer, with a few names mentioned so far.

The main name in the frame though is Tottenham’s Pochettino, with many believing that he is the ideal candidate to take over at Old Trafford in 2019.

The Argentinian has worked miracles at Spurs since leaving Southampton for the North London club in 2014, and has the club competing in the top four despite a lack of investment.

Last week, Pochettino was asked about a potential move to United, but was coy in his answer, refusing to rule himself out of the running as quoted by The Telegraph.

Now, ex-Spurs manager Redknapp has suggested that Pochettino may have been keeping his options open, but urged him to stay at United – and believes Daniel Levy will be hard work in negotiations anyway, and likely to demand a huge fee for his star manager.

“Probably,” said Redknapp. “It’s gonna be a tough one; if he decides he does wanna go, obviously it’s difficult to keep him. Daniel will be very hard to deal with, he’s gonna want an absolute fortune for him if he let him go.”

“The two teams don’t compare; Tottenham are miles in front of Manchester United. Would he want to leave at this point? I don’t know, it’s a tough call. I think I’d stay at Tottenham,” he added.
