Tottenham Hotspur cult hero Harry Redknapp has praised reported Spurs managerial target Vincent Kompany.

Redknapp said on the Beyond the Pitch Podcast that the Burnley boss would be an “interesting” shout for Spurs.

The 76-year-old also said Kompany is a “great guy” who “looks like he could be a great manager”.

Tottenham remain in pursuit of a new permanent manager after parting company with Antonio Conte in March.

Kompany is just one of the names doing the rounds with regards to the Spurs vacancy.

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that Tottenham had actually spoken to Kompany over the vacancy.

The 37-year-old has made a name for himself as a coach in England thanks to his heroics at Burnley.

Kompany has effectively turned the Clarets into a ‘Man City-lite’ as they stormed to the Championship title.

Redknapp gave his verdict on the speculation linking the Belgian with Tottenham.

“Listen, I don’t know,” he said. “They’re talking about Vincent Kompany being of interest. That would be interesting.

“He’s a great guy, he looks like a fantastic young man, a top player who looks like he could be a great manager.”

Our view

It’s great to see a Premier League legend getting his English coaching career off to such a good start.

Kompany did well at Anderlecht and has done amazingly well at Burnley.

However, it would probably be best for him and Spurs – and the Clarets – if he stayed put for now.

Kompany has already got Burnley back into the top flight with the team he has built.

It’s very much the logical option for him to stay put and see what he can do in the Premier League.

In addition, Spurs and Burnley will have contrasting expectations next season.

For the Clarets, surviving relegation will likely be the bottom line in their first campaign back in the top flight.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will be eager for top four and silverware, or at least a great cup run.

Kompany will be under intense pressure at Spurs, and at this stage in his career, he really doesn’t need that.
