Harry Redknapp worked with former Glasgow Rangers midfielder Joey Barton at Queens Park Rangers.
Former West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp shared on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, November 11, 2016) his experience of working with Joey Barton.
Redknapp worked with Barton when he was the manager of Queens Park Rangers from 2012 until 2015.
The Englishman seems to have fond memories of working with the 34-year-old midfielder, whose contract with Glasgow Rangers was recently terminated.
The former QPR manager has stated that Barton was a leader in the dressing room, but he has admitted that on certain days the ex-Manchester City midfielder could be a problem.
Redknapp has also compared Barton to former Manchester United and Celtic midfielder Roy Keane.
Keane is one of the greatest players in football history and is a United legend.
The former Republic of Ireland international midfielder ended his professional club football career at Celtic in 2006.
During his playing career, Keane earned the reputation of being a no-nonsense midfielder who was direct and blunt in giving his opinion.
“Joey was a leader in the dressing room, he was a winner, wanted to win, he would have days where some days he would be as good as gold, other days he would come in and would want to have a row with somebody, a bit like with Roy Keane,” said Redknapp on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, November 11, 2016).
“If he thought something, he certainly wouldn’t be shy coming forward and saying it, and he could be a problem with other players.”
Barton is without a club at the moment, having recently had his contract with Rangers terminated.
The former Newcastle United joined the Gers in the summer transfer window after leaving Burnley at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
