Former West Ham United boss Harry Redknapp has told talkSPORT that he thinks the Hammers look to have a better team than Manchester United right now.

West Ham hosted the Red Devils on Sunday afternoon, and were in high spirits having gone four games unbeaten and kept two clean sheets in a row.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men served up a superb display, opening the scoring through Andriy Yarmolenko, as he smashed home a left-footed effort from a smart Felipe Anderson pass.

United failed to really test West Ham at the back, and they were dead and buried when Aaron Cresswell whipped a stunning free kick into the top corner of the net, beyond David de Gea.

United were hopeless for much of the game, especially in midfield, as Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay offered little against the Hammers.

West Ham were able to dominate through Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Pablo Fornals in the middle of the park, leaving United to go back to Old Trafford empty-handed.

Now, pundit and ex-Hammers boss Redknapp has offered his honest view, claiming that West Ham’s team simply looks better than United’s right now, and whilst injuries are a factor, the Hammers have certainly recruited better in the last couple of years.

Redknapp even predicted that West Ham and Leicester City will push for a top six place this season, seemingly very excited about the team Pellegrini and co have put together.

“It’s a long way back for them, the team is nowhere near good enough,” said Redknapp. “You can talk about Ole, you can criticise the managers but the players he’s got are what they are. You look at that team before the game and thought ‘what an average-looking team’. West Ham’s team looks a better team. They’re a very, very average bunch at the moment, I’m afraid.”

“They could even fall out of the top six if they’re not careful, because Leicester and West Ham they’re the two teams – for me, I’ve said it since day one – could push themselves into a top six position this season,” he added.
