Former manager and current pundit Harry Rednapp has told the Daily Mail that Pedro Caixinha would have a leader at Rangers should he decide to keep Clint Hill.

The Gers swooped to land Hill on a free transfer last summer after he had left Queens Park Rangers, with Mark Warburton handing him a one-year contract at Ibrox.

At the age of 38, Hill wasn’t expected to play a huge role for Rangers, with many expecting him to simply be brought in as a veteran presence for a youthful Gers side.

However, the centre back has made 28 appearances for Rangers this season, scoring an impressive six goals – including three in his last three games, and the equaliser against Celtic in this month’s Old Firm derby.

Hill has almost become more and more important for Rangers as the season has worn on despite his advancing years, but his contract situation remains up in the air.

Hill’s contract expires at the end of the season, and new manager Pedro Caixinha will now have to decide whether the veteran – who turns 39 in October – is worth another contract at Ibrox.

Now, Hill’s former Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Caixinha should keep Hill at the club, as he is a veteran leader who would valuable to the Gers – or another club.

Redknapp suggested that whether Rangers offer Hill a new deal or not, he will continue his playing career, and isn’t surprised to see him fare well in Glasgow given his competitive edge and reliability, noting that he is in ‘great condition’ for his age.

“Clint will continue to play, I’m sure,” said Redknapp. “He is a good organiser and a real leader. Just a good sort, really. As a manager, he is the type you want in your team any day of the week. It’s all-important to have those players to help you. For me, the most important thing is to have a good dressing room. People in the mould of Clint will take care of the dressing room for you. The new manager at Rangers would have a leader on the pitch if Clint stays. If they don’t keep him, I’m sure someone else will snap him up because I definitely think there are another couple of years left in him.”

“I had no doubts at all that Clint would do well at Rangers, none. He is a great competitor and the type of fella you want on your side. You can always rely on him. He gives 100 per cent every single game and is an excellent professional. More than that, though, he has a real will to win. That shines through with him whenever he steps on a football pitch.”

“I have watched him this season and he is still in great condition. There is nothing to stop him playing for another couple of seasons going by what I have seen. Clint doesn’t put on weight. He looks after himself extremely well and is clearly in good nick. I’m delighted for him that he has brought a lot to Rangers,” he added.
