Newcastle United put out a public statement suggesting they were up for sale yesterday.

Mike Ashley publicly announced yesterday that Newcastle were up for sale, as he looks for an exit before the end of the year.
Ashley has had a turbulent time at the helm at St. James’ Park, and he has never been a particularly popular figure with Newcastle supporters.

A fresh start could be great for the club, but Redknapp fears that another foreign owner could come in – and he feels that would be ‘sad’.
“What a club. That’s a club that if someone comes in with serious money, with that support, Newcastle could push on to another level, if he’s got a buyer, and it’s the right kind of buyer.” Redknapp said. “I’m sure it’ll be another foreigner coming into the game, which is sad in many ways.”

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez did not complete all the additions he wanted to make over the summer, but a new takeover could provide him with some more funds to spend in January.
Newcastle are currently in ninth place in the Premier League table, and their encouraging start may have attracted the attentions of a number of potential buyers.
