Harry Redknapp has stated that Jermain Defoe’s potential move to Rangers is ‘some signing’ as he predicted that his former player will ‘score some goals’ for the club.

Sky Sports claimed on Thursday that the Bournemouth player has agreed terms with the Gers and is set to join the Glasgow club on an 18-month loan deal.

The 36-year-old’s potential move to the Scottish Premiership this month could play a pivotal part in who lifts the title at the end of the season.

Steven Gerrard’s side are level on points with leaders Celtic in the table after they defeated their Old Firm rivals 1-0 prior to the winter break.

Former Tottenham manager Redknapp, who managed Defoe for a number of English clubs, expressed his amazement at his move up north.

“That was some signing,” Redknapp told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on 04/01/2019 at 7:45 am. “That is an amazing signing.

“The little man, he is fit as a fiddle. He is an absolutely unbelieve professional. He lives right, he doesn’t drink, he’s absolutely super fit. I think he could really go up there and score some goals.”

Rangers manager Gerrard, who shared the same dressing room with Defoe for England, will be hoping his reportedly new signing can give his team a much-needed title boost.

Despite the Gers being level on points with Celtic, Brendan Rodgers side do have a game in hand on their rivals as clubs in Scotland are currently on a mid-season break.

Upon their return, Gerrard’s men will first travel to Cowdenbeath in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round on January 18 before they begin their title challenge once again away at Kilmarnock five days later.
