Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day.
Harry Redknapp joking said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning (broadcast from 6am, August 31, 2016) that Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy would have offered £5 million for Moussa Sissoko.
The former Tottenham manager (jokingly) suggested that if Newcastle United want £35m for Sissoko, then Levy would have offered the Magpies £5m.
“There’s talk about signing Sissoko from Newcastle, [but] Daniel’s not going to bid anywhere near what someone wants, is he!” Redknapp jokingly said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning (broadcast from 6am, August 31, 2016).
“If they’re asking for £35m, Daniel will be offering £5m! That’s just the way it is with him, he’s different class.
“But he’ll get there in the end. It’ll be a battle between him and Mike Ashley today, two shrewd, clever men, but he’ll get it done in the end, I’m sure.”
According to The Chronicle, Premier League outfit Tottenham are interested in signing Sissoko from Newcastle on transfer deadline day.
It has been reported that Tottenham have made a bid of £16m for the France international midfielder.
Newcastle, who are playing in the Championship this season, initially valued the 27-year-old at £35m and will now accept £30m, according to the report.
Sissoko enjoyed a successful 2016 European Championship campaign with France in the summer, but the former Toulouse star has yet to make an appearance in the Championship for Newcastle this season.
The Magpies are aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship this season and gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
Tottenham, who will feature in the Champions League this season, are looking to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
