Vincent Janssen is yet to score for Tottenham Hotspur.
Harry Redknapp has expressed doubts over whether Vincent Janssen will be able to break into Tottenham Hotspur’s starting line-up in the London Evening Standard.
Janssen was brought to Spurs during the summer transfer window from AZ Alkmaar, to provide competition for Harry Kane up-front.
The Dutch international has been rotated in and out of the starting line-up so far, but Redknapp feels that Dele Alli will eventually become Spurs’ main number 10 this season, with Kane continuing to lead the line up-front.
“Hopefully Janssen will be a success – but I still think he’ll [Pochettino] play with Dele Alli in behind Kane – that’s the proven partnership,” Redknapp said.
“They had an awful lot of players away [at the Euros] but I think they’ll settle down and be a real force again.”
Janssen is yet to score for Spurs, but he has still managed to impress in his initial appearances.
The striker’s power has proven problematic for defences, but his finishing has let him down when presented with a scoring opportunity.
Tottenham remain unbeaten during the Premier League season to date, and Redknapp believes that they will only get stronger when Moussa Dembele returns from suspension.
“They miss Dembele still. When he’s fit and playing he opens the door – he’s a fantastic footballer. He’s been a big miss early on,” Redknapp added.
In Dembele’s absence, new signing Victor Wanyama has filled in and he has impressed.
Wanyama has added power to Spurs’ midfield, but he lacks the technical ability of Dembele.
Dembele could make his first Premier League appearance of the season next weekend, when Spurs take on Sunderland.
