Nottingham Forest sold Britt Assombalonga to Middlesbrough and the deal is causing repercussions for Birmingham City.

Harry Redknapp has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 3rd August, that Nottingham Forest’s sale of Britt Assomablonga to Middlesbrough is affecting his transfer plans at Birmingham City.

Forest sold Assombalonga to Boro in a deal worth £15 million, according to the Daily Mirror, earlier this summer.

And the big-money nature of that transfer means that Championship clubs across the country have increased their asking price for their key stars.

Birmingham are now becoming frustrated in their search for a striker, as very little value for money is available.

“Every player we’ve gone in for has trebled in price,” Redknapp said. “A month a go we were saying you’ll get him for £2 million and suddenly he’s £6 million.

“What’s happened is the lad has gone from Nottingham Forest to Middlesbrough for £15 million and everyone else is saying ‘if he’s worth £15 million, ours has to be worth £6 million’. It’s just gone crazy.”

Assombalonga’s move away from Forest to Boro has gone into the record books as one of the most valuable signings in Championship history.

The Congolese-born striker will now have a great deal of pressure on him to perform at Boro.

Garry Monk’s side are the favourites to be promoted this season, and Assombalonga is expected to be their leading scorer.

Birmingham, meanwhile, are still looking for additions as Redknapp scours the market.

The Blues want more quality injected into their squad, as they look to make a big improvement on last term, when they narrowly avoided relegation.
