Harry Redknapp told Transfer Deadline Day on Sky Sports that West Ham have ‘recruited well’ and he has backed them to finish ‘seventh or eighth’ in the Premier League this term.
The former Hammers boss shared that Tomáš Souček and Vladimír Coufal have been ‘outstanding’ for the club this season.
West Ham were chasing a striker after allowing Sebastien Haller to leave for Ajax at the start of the winter window.
Redknapp labelled the departed striker as a ‘massive disappointment’ and touched upon Moyes now having to keep his players fit after not bringing in a replacement.
“They have recruited well,” said Redknapp. “David has done a great job and I mean they have recruited well. The two Czech Republic boys have been outstanding, haven’t they?!
“It’s all about injuries [on West Ham not signing a striker]. They let the centre-forward go, Haller. He was a massive disappointment, so they have had to bite the bullet with him.
“If they keep the squad fit then, I mean they had a disappointing day [against Liverpool], but I still think they can finish seventh or eight this year.
“They look capable of that. David Moyes has done a great job there. And they have recruited well, which is good.”
In truth, West Ham perhaps made the right call in not bringing another new face in upfront because it could have easily gone wrong.
In fact, it has gone wrong for West Ham in their years and years of searching for that one striker.
So, perhaps a longer and more intense search is needed to finally purchase that out-and-out number nine that can do the business at the London Stadium.
