Harry Redknapp said on Sky Sports News (1:43pm, February 13, 2021) that Arsenal winger Willian wanted a lot of money to stay at Chelsea.

Willian left Chelsea at the end of last season and joined London and Premier League rivals Arsenal on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old, who can also operate as attacking midfielder, was offered a two-year contract by the Blues, as reported by The Daily Mail, but the Brazilian moved to the Gunners on a free transfer after being handed a three-year deal, as reported by The Guardian.

According to Spotrac, the attacker is on £192,308-a-week salary at Arsenal.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United manager Redknapp claimed that Willian was asking for a lot of money to sign a new deal with Chelsea before his move to Arsenal.

Frank Lampard was the manager of Chelsea at the time and is the nephew of Redknapp, who has also claimed that he wanted the former England international midfielder to sign John Stones from Manchester City.

Redknapp said about Willian on Sky Sports News (1:43pm, February 13, 2021): “Willian has been a disappointment, hasn’t he? I bet he is on mega-money. I know he was asking Chelsea for crazy money to stay, so he must have got it to go to Arsenal.”

Disappointing at Arsenal

Willian arrived at Arsenal with a strong reputation, having won the Premier League (twice), the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League with Chelsea.

However, the 32-year-old has not had the best of times at Arsenal and is not playing well at the moment.

According to WhoScored, the Brazilian has made 12 starts and five substitute appearances in the league so far this season, providing three assists in the process.
