West Ham United are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table.

Harry Redknapp has told the London Evening Standard that West Ham United’s signings last summer have cost them a place in the top six.

West Ham are currently in 17th place in the Premier League table, and they appear to have regressed since last season.

The Hammers brought in a number of new players last summer, but it is only youngsters Edimilson Fernandes and Ashley Fletcher who have shown any signs of promise.

The likes of Alvaro Arbeloa, Havard Nordtveit, Jonathan Calleri and Simone Zaza have all struggled since moving to the London Stadium.

And Redknapp said: “Recruitment has been a major problem. West Ham were in a position where if they’d found a little bit of quality to bring into the club, they could have kicked on and would have been strong contenders for a top six place.

“Alvaro Arbeloa looks as if he’s had his day. Havard Nordtveit wasn’t up to it at Arsenal and gave away a penalty to cost West Ham a draw at Tottenham last month. Many of the players who’ve come in are not able to reach the same level as those who are missing.

“Andre Ayew was expensive at £20.5million and he’s been injured. The jury is still out on whether he’s worth anything like that kind of money.”

West Ham have struggled in a number of areas this season, as a result of their poor recruitment.

The Hammers have been desperately short of options up-front, and their form has been awful since the start of the campaign.

West Ham are just one point above the relegation zone, with the pressure building on Slaven Bilic.

The Hammers are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Liverpool at Anfield.
